Specialistic approach

The studio for ceramics Struktuur 68 was founded in 1968 by Jacques van Gaalen and Henk Trumpie. It is established in a few houses in the centre of The Hague. Originally the initiators had worked at the Experimental Department of the Porceleyne Fles. The cause for a new enterprise for ceramics was the growing need among visual artists to realize monumental work in ceramics.

The existing firms weren’t able to meet the specialistic approach in a satisfying way, being based on traditional methods, which goes with the territory when realizing monumental artworks. Even today it still proves to be difficult to incorporate individual artistic quality into a large scale production system. Artistic experiments are time consuming, expensive and therefore not interesting to industry. 

Because of its specialistic set-up Struktuur 68 has the opportunity to involve itself with handiwork and experiments. The studio has applied itself to the manufacturing of large sculptures in public and private spaces, inside as well as outside. With its knowledge of ceramics and its facilities Struktuur 68 is there for the benefit of visual artists and architects.
